About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and Lorenz Hart (1895-1943) were Broadway's top songwriting team of the 1930s. Between 1925 and 1943 the duo produced dozens of massively popular theater and film scores, including On Your Toes, Babes in Arms, A Connecticut Yankee, Pal Joey, and The Boys from Syracuse. On 1996's Dawn Upshaw Sings Rosgers and Hart, the acclaimed American soprano puts her refined imprimatur on 15 of the pair's best, including "Manhattan," "Thou Swell," "Sing for Your Supper," "Little Girl Blue," and "I Could Write a Book." Upshaw handles each bauble like a delicate and beautiful objet d'art, her gorgeous voice the perfect vehicle for Rodgers's lush melodies and Hart's witty lyrics. David Elliot Cohen, Barnes & Noble
