About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

American Idol seventh season runner-up David Archuleta was the same age as Jordin Sparks, the season six winner, but he always seemed much, much older -- a creature from a different era, a time where Up with People peacefully merged with the sound and sensibility of the pre-Nirvana '90s. Modernity seemed foreign to Archuleta, which wouldn't prevent his success in American Idol, a show that lives in a permanent oldies fantasia where it's still rebellious to sing the Allman Brothers some 35 years after their breakthrough. While rebellion is anathema to Archuleta, there's no doubt that the kid is sweet, something that shone through on the show, and he manages to sidestep saccharine pitfalls through much of his eponymous debut -- delivered six months after AmIdol season seven drew to a close. The producers keep him away from anything rhythmic through most of David Archuleta, with only the overly busy rhythm tracks distinguishing this as a 2008 release. Archuleta does sing well -- maybe not with a sense of storytelling, but as a highly coached performer who can hit the marks with accuracy. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

October 05, 2009: This is my favorite album of all time. I love David Archuleta! The music on this album is great. There are upbeat catchy, songs; there are also slow, easy songs; and there are some songs that you can really relate to. He has the most incredible voice, and the lyrics to the songs are amazing too. This is must have. I can't wait for his next album.

August 09, 2009: David Archuleta is an amazing singer, with a lovely voice. Is song Crush, is my #1 favorite. I can't get enough of it, and I constantly listen to it. When he sings, you can tell he puts genuine feelings into each word, and that he's singing from the heart.

I Also Recommend: Lines, Vines and Trying Times, Move Along, Beautiful Soul, Fearless, David Cook.

What Parents Need to Know

About David Archuleta

Parents need to know that this debut album from American Idol star David Archuleta has lots of songs about love -- lost love, pining for love -- but it's all pretty tame stuff. There are some strong, adult emotions expressed in songs like "Desperate" that might be confusing to fans younger than 10, but overall there's nothing sexual or inappropriate for tweens.

Families Can Talk About

Families can talk about Archuleta's young age, and the fact that his religious background was mentioned repeatedly on the show. Do you think his age and beliefs are relevant to his success as a musician? What do you think about the comparison between David Archuleta, with his clean-cut image, and his Idol rival David Cook, with his unshaven rocker style, who ultimately won? Is one image more marketable than the other? For what age groups?
