About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

This 20-track collection from Australia's Raven label certainly captures all of Danny O'Keefe's strengths as a songwriter and as a performer. Since he only had one hit under his own name in "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues," the uninitiated may be curious as to why the man has such a fine retrospective. O'Keefe's songs have been covered by everyone from Jackson Browne and Gary Stewart to Leo Sayer, Elvis Presley, Alison Krauss, and Steve Howe! The original versions of many of those songs are here, from "The Road" to "Quits" and "Well, Well, Well" (co-written with Bob Dylan). And for the record, these are the definitive readings of them. O'Keefe's phrasing as a singer is powerfully deadpan, reportorial, yet elegant, and he gets the subtleties across with authority. The sound here is terrific, wonderfully and warmly remastered, and there is a fine set of liner notes by Australian singer/songwriter Mike McClellan. Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
