About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

At 20, Jaci Velasquez is already a Christian-music veteran, but she truly comes into her own on Crystal Clear, her third English-language album. Velasquez says she had more creative input on this project than anything she's done before, and it shows in the album's aura of confidence and creativity. With a memorable mix of Latin-flavored tunes, sensitive power ballads, and upbeat dance numbers that Britney Spears would kill for, the aptly-titled Crystal Clear shows the singer to be firmly in control. Jaci's teen-pop roots get their due on the opening track "Escuchame (Listen to Me)," which Velasquez cowrote. On that track, she cautions her chart-topping peers that happiness lies with God, not chart position and SoundScan numbers. "I've been there before," she sings. "Let me save you some pain -- Baby, don't make the same mistakes." It's a strong message wrapped in a sassy Latin-pop rhythm, but its power comes from the fact that Velasquez knows of what she sings. While such tender ballads as the lovely "Come As You Are" (a duet with Latin star Louis Fonsi) show Velasquez's more emotional side, Crystal Clear noteworthiness lies in its emotional strength and musical maturity.
