About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Although Crosby, Stills & Nash had the trappings of a simple gathering of friends, this was really a summit meeting of cool hippie-rock aristocracy. David Crosby was a refugee from the Byrds, Stephen Stills had been part of the short-lived, fractious Buffalo Springfield, and Graham Nash had been a member of the harmony-driven British band the Hollies. In the wake of Buffalo Springfield's breakup, Crosby, Stills and Nash were the next best hope for a made-in-California sound that blended rock, country, folk, psychedelic, and plain old pop influences. What they delivered truly deserves the appellation of classic rock. Its finest track is "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," practically a rock operetta, featuring compelling lyrics from Stills, an arrangement full of shifts and surprises, and exquisite harmonies. Among the other memorable tunes are the whimsical "Marrakesh Express," the lovely "Guinnevere," the dramatic "Wooden Ships," and the rollicking "49 Bye Byes." Another refugee from Buffalo Springfield, guitarist Neil Young, joined the band for an equally successful follow-up, but Crosby, Stills & Nash remains their most inspired work and a great artifact of its time. November 19, 2004: This album is a cultural artifact , a relic of the 60's . Much of the material is VERY dated . Having said that , it has some of the best vocal harmonies ever recorded . My favorite song is Guinnevere . Unfortunatly , this is one of those works that simply will not click with other generations . It's a shame that they will never appreciate the wonderful work that this is .

August 29, 2003: This is the most incredible album I have ever had the pleasure to listen to, and to sing along to. This album was given to me by my sister on my High School graduation in 1970 and was by far the finest gift I received for that occasion. It was the first album that I replaced with a CD when CDs came out and it has since become unusable so I am now replacing it with a gift certificate received for my birthday. Again being the best gift I received for this occasion. This type of harmony is normally not found except in sibling groups and not within groups that are unrelated.
