About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Relentless and exhausting in all the best ways, Basement Jaxx create nonstop ecstatic party soundtracks that overflow with humor and surprises. The British duo of Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxtom follows 2003's Kish Kash with the aptly titled Crazy Itch Radio, an album that relishes bouncing all over the place: all over the dance floor, all over genres, all over the globe. Stitched together with radio announcements and dial-flipping static, Crazy Itch touches down on U.K. grime (the hyperactive, horn-fueled "Run 4 Cover" featuring Lady Marga), dense, Prince-ly funk ("Hush Boy"), sexy electropop soul ("Smoke Bubbles"), and chill-out ballads ("Lights Go Down" with British legend Linda Lewis). Typically Jaxx, Crazy Itch spins like a collection of singles: every song creates its own brightly colored world. Highlights among highlights, the ones poised to join "Romeo" and "Where's Your Head At" as Jaxx classics, are "Take Me Back to Your House," an irresistibly thumping house track propelled by a plucky banjo (!), and "Hey U," which takes a page from Diplo's globe-trotting aesthetic and layers stuttering favela rhythms, Balkan folk music, and a huge choir behind the seductive lead vocals of Swedish pop star Robyn. Like Fatboy Slim and the Avalanches, Basement Jaxx throw anything and everything into making a party surprising, euphoric, and, like an itch, hard to resist. Steve Klinge, Barnes & Noble
