About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

In 1985, Janet Jackson was basically Michael Jackson's kid sister. Twelve months later she was Janet -- Ms. Jackson, if you please -- and the author of one of the strongest musical statements made by a black woman in pop music during the '80s. CONTROL is a recording of astonishing rhythmic vitality (a product of her producers, former Time members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) and assertive lyrics, defined by the aggression of "What Have You Done for Me Lately," "Nasty," and the title song. More laid back are "Pleasure Principle" and "When I Think of You," yet even these tracks affirm Jackson as a young woman in control of her own destiny -- a message that comes through loud and clear. This album became the template for Jackson's three subsequent conceptual efforts, just as its attitude became a requisite for subsequent pop divas. Martin Johnson, Barnes & Noble

February 26, 2008: Um, yea just came across this post and I must say that I can not agree with this post. The song is good and it comes off what was at the time Janet's real debut. Lets face it her first two albums "yes they were still called that back then" were less than stellar. But what I do not agree with is what was said about Ms. Andrews. I have first hand knowledge from someone whom I am very close to, that Ms. Andrews was/is nothing but a user and will stab one in the back to get what she wants. She should have played her cards better and walked the line a bit better and maybe Ms. Jackson would have kept her around, but clearly she didn't do that. She has a knack for hurting and lying to people and although it's never nice to hear about people having to struggle in their life, you should not point fingers at Ms. Jackson for not continuing that relationship, when in fact they should be pointed in NO one but Ms. Andrews direction. I have heard Ms. Andrews voice and I disagree that she would have had a bigger career had things gone better with Janet...insane.
