About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Compassion is a totally unique album by Coyote Oldman. Michael Graham Allen and Barry Stramp have always maintained that their soundscapes were holistically influenced by all native cultures rather than just by Native American culture. This disc, while certainly influenced by Native American heritage, features overt references to other cultures. It also has unique sounds. Allen developed experimental bass flutes and double flutes for this project. He also performs on a pre-Columbian clay flute that is over 100 years old. Hui Cheng of the Mainland China National Opera is a guest vocalist. Her wordless chants are an integral element of the sound design. Stramp's innovative recording techniques take the soundscapes to new heights. Cheng's vocal qualities and textures are reminiscent of Jim Cole's overtone singing and Tuvan throat singing. This is a classic CD. It will appeal to fans of Stephan Baer, Little Wolf Band, Spirit Nation, Douglas Spotted Eagle, R. Carlos Nakai, and Nawang Khechog. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide All Music Guide
