A couple CDs ago, Anders Osborne put out a record titled, Living Room. After listening to Anders latest CD, Coming Down, I think a better title might have been Front Porch. Acoustic, sparse, reflective--- Anders latest CD makes you feel as if you sitting on the front porch of his house listening in as he and a few friends sing about life in New Orleans. Anders Osborne has always been a gifted songwriter and guitar player, but Coming Down really showcases Anders’ voice. He doesn’t just sing a song, he caresses it. I first became been an Anders Osborne fan way back in 1988 when I moved to New Orleans. I don’t live in New Orleans these days, but it’s never further away than an Anders Osborne CD and this one is no exception, as Anders seems to always find inspiration in the that magic town. Songs like Summertime in New Orleans, Back On Dumaine and Oh Katrina draw right from the city, and in the other songs, Anders pours his heart out—the good, the bad, the now and then. Great piano work by both John Gros and Gordie Sampson here, filling in and around Anders strumming on the acoustic guitar. I’ve always wondered why Anders Osborne isn’t a household name beyond New Orleans, but there’s a part of me that just wants to keep him to myself. Paul Greeley Pgreeley98@aol.com
