About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Sometimes it seems as if Adrian Belew is the Zelig of rock guitar, shifting shape from avant squaller to progressive composer to pop auteur -- roles that are all in evidence on this so-called "future sampler." COMING ATTRACTIONS is a homespun (if technologically advanced) visit to Belew's home studio, with a chance to quaff potions of varied taste and texture, from the singalong sweetness of "117 Valley Drive" (which features his occasional collaborators, the Bears) to the ornate experimentalism of "Animal Kingdom," which conjures a veritable safari of sound from guitar alone. While some of the material collected here, like "No Such Guitar," has been swirling around Planet Belew for a decade or more, there's precious little that sounds dated. That's partly a function of his oddball evolutionary approach (a melody that starts on keyboard might be transposed for toy ray gun), but more attributable to Belew's consistent one-step-ahead vision. Step into the future today. David Sprague, Barnes & Noble

March 03, 2000: I could repeat what others are saying, but, just slide this into your player and enjoy the latest from the Master. If you only have a little of his work, buy this and start purchasing anything of his past accomplishments. Adrian Belew has been too much of a secret for too long. I play him for my students, I have given his work as gifts. Truly, his best to date, right up there with the Crimson work.
