About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The Indigo Girls' tenth album is a roots-rock party, and you can check your folkie prejudices at the door. From the adrenaline-fueled "Go" onward, COME ON NOW SOCIAL lets Amy Ray and Emily Saliers indulge their inner rock goddesses while keeping the duo's heartfelt lyrics and activist lyrics front and center. The result feels a lot like the crisp, roots-dipped pop of Sheryl Crow or Joan Osborne, who are just two of the high-profile guests dropping by to strum and sing some. The Band's Garth Hudson and Rick Danko help out on the country shuffle "Gone Again," and Me'Shell Ndegeocello picks up a fuzzed-out bass on "Compromise" -- a garage-rock burner that asks no quarter. Yet for all the star power, COME ON is exuberantly Emily and Amy. You can feel it in the rejuvenated songwriting and performances that don't mistake mere earnestness for passion. Veering from folk pop to Stax-flavored soul to punk rock, COME ON catches the Girls at their most varied -- and spirited -- in years. Mark Schwartz, Barnes & Noble
