Collection is yet another Big Country retrospective. Issued through Spectrum Music, the set focuses mainly on material from the band's early Mercury years. Casual listeners looking for that "bagpipe sound" will dig "Where the Rose Is Sown" (from Country's second album, 1984's Steeltown), and the afterthought inclusion of an unremarkable 12" mix for "Fields of Fire." But the real highlights are tracks like "River of Hope," "Look Away," and "One Great Thing" -- righteous and rousing stuff that had varying success as singles in the U.K. and Europe. Collection is filled out with album cuts, many from the fair 1986 effort The Seer (Kate Bush helps out on that album's title track). At best. it's a decent budget buy, as all of this material is available elsewhere in stronger configurations. Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
