About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

This 2009 issue by Gambit Records displays the front cover of the Modern Jazz Quartet's historic meeting with guitarist Laurindo Almeida, entitled Collaboration. What the CD contains, however, is not only this legendary Atlantic album, but the complete recordings of the MJQ from 1964. In addition to Collaboration, the album The Modern Jazz Quartet Plays George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess is included, featuring music from three concert performances at Webster Hall in late 1964 that were recorded for radio broadcast. While there isn't anything here that hardcore fans haven't heard before, assembling two great albums for a very fine price point is always attractive. Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
