About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

An odds-and-sods collection assembled after John Bonham's death, Coda is predictably a hit-or-miss affair. The best material comes from later in Led Zeppelin's career, including the ringing folk stomp of "Poor Tom," the jacked-up '50s rock & roll of "Ozone Baby," and their response to punk rock, the savage "Wearing and Tearing." The rest of the album -- sadly including the Bonham showcase "Bonzo's Montreux" -- is average, despite the presence of some stellar playing, especially on the early blues-rock blitzkrieg "I Can't Quit You Baby" and "We're Gonna Groove." February 17, 2009: I don't see how any one can say that this album is bad it's zeppelin for god sakes. It has all the tracks that they never put on their albums and their all extremely good songs.

February 27, 2007: Coda is for the serious collector, or any John Bonham fan. The true pleasure in the album is hearing Bonham play drums. In general, the later songs have a driving rhythm, with catchy and unique drumbeats. Songs "We're Gonna Groove" and "Poor Tom" are great examples of Bonham's technique. Other examples include "Walter's Walk" and "Wearing and Tearing" that would be lesser songs without Bonham's talent. "Bonzo's Montreux", while a nice recognition for Bonham, doesn't match "Moby Dick" for drumming skills. Overall, a great album to fill out the Led Zeppelin collection or to hear how average songs can be made great by an excellent drummer and top-notch musicians. The album probably won't be a repeat play for casual rock fans.
