The Controllers hit with "Somebody's Gotta Win, Somebody's Gotta Lose," back in the day, but opening with "When I'm Away" on Clear View they sound like Boyz II Men; they update their '70s classic with a '90s-style, meaning they tack on a long intro and emote their lamenting lyrics for nearly six minutes. Their seasoned voices have a youthful, contemporary quality, especially on "Alone," and on the hip-hop flavored "Clear View" and "Step Aside." They also alternate between lightweight hip-hop, and pleaders like "Goodbye," "Into Your Heart," and "No Need to Hurry." Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
