About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A compendium of sorts for the mighty Aphrodite, aka Gavin King, whose various ragga and jump-up tracks have scaled the high points of most jungle DJs' sets at one point or another throughout the mid-'90s. Aphrodite Recordings gives a sense of the largeness, although, as usual with jump-up, these tracks don't sound nearly as interesting outside of a club. Anthems such as "King of the Beats," "Woman That Rolls," "Style from the Darkside," and "Spice," as well as a few lesser-rinsed (occasionally for good reason) cuts. In addition to King's solo tracks as Aphrodite, the CD also features cuts by Amazon II (his ragga project with Tony B.) and Alladin (featuring King with producer QED). Sean Cooper, All Music Guide
