Editorial Reviews

Classic Ray Stevens isn't an accurate title for this nine-track collection. There are no hits here, only re-recorded versions of such novelties as "If Ten Percent Is Good Enough for Jesus (It Oughta Be Enough for Uncle Sam)," "The Higher Education of Ole Blue," "Super Cop," "If You and Yo' Folks Like Me and My Folks," "The All-American Two Week Summer Family Vacation," and "The Motel Song." Although there are better collections available, this isn't a bad choice for casual fans on a budget. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

December 01, 2004: why is it I can't find any of the Ray Stevens songs that I really loved the ones he had on his old tapes like the pirate song (I want to sing and dance) or country punk, when the tapes came out I collected them but then the kids took them out of their boxs and threw them away now I want to buy the CDs but you can only find a few songs on each CD and they just repeat over the same songs. and why is it his greatest songs collections aways have all songs I don't like on them and almost none of the ones i do like?

September 06, 2003: "Classic Ray Stevens" is a CD that was released a few months after the huge success of his 'Comedy Video Classics' home video. The title of the album reflects the "classical" looking album cover...anyone would know that right off the bat. All of these songs are original and so i don't know what the other reviewer is talking about when he says these are all re-recordings? Like all of Ray's CDs, this one is quickly going out of print. It was released in 1993 on CURB Records near IRS time, which is why the lead-off song and first single was about income taxes. Out of all 10 songs, my favorites are "Super Cop", "The Ballad of Jake McCluskey", "All American Two Week Summer Family Vacation", and "Meanwhile".
