In the 1980s, Candi Staton returned to her gospel roots, starting her own label, Beracah Records. Classic Candi, Vol. 2 collects her third and fourth albums for the label, Sing a Song (1986) and Love Lifted Me (1988), on one CD. The sound here is closer to traditional gospel than Southern soul, but Staton's voice remains as strong and moving as ever. Wade Kergan, All Music Guide
