Editorial Reviews

Putting a fresh spin on two of Christian music's hottest trends -- the all-star compilation album and praise and worship music -- can't have been easy. But City on a Hill succeeds by making prodigious use of its rich talent pool. Collaboration is the key word here, with artists such as Sixpence None the Richer, Third Day, and Jars of Clay combining their talents in a common cause: to worship God. The artists contributing to City on a Hill are far from just hired guns -- these folks had input into the project's songwriting, performing, and even some of its packaging. Sixpence singer Leigh Nash's ethereal vocals blend nicely with the mellow alt-pop tones of Jars' Dan Haseltine on "With Every Breath," while the unique pairing of Third Day's Mac Powell and Caedmon's Call on "God of Wonders" underscores producer Steve Hindalong's creative touch. City on a Hill also marks the final project of noted musician/producer/engineer Gene Eugene, who passed away less than two weeks after completing his work on this project. September 27, 2002: I think this CD is wonderful and so powerful. I love to hear christians singing their hearts out for our Lord and Saviour. My favorite is With Every Breath. It has helped me and some others I know to learn to praise the Lord no matter what is going on! Thanks to the many people it took to put these songs together. Listening to them has been a real blessing!!
