Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire is Bob Rivers' fourth album of Christmas-themed song parodies and novelty tunes. Like its predecessors, the record has its share of funny moments as well as its share of lame filler; which side holds the most sway will depend on whether you enjoy Rivers' wacky, sometimes juvenile sense of humor. Highlights include the two nasty, album-opening parodies of the Chipmunks (a ubiquitous Christmas novelty itself, and one that's ripe for send-up), "Santa Claus Is Foolin' Around," and the song that no Christmas comedy album in the year 2000 could be without, "Pokemon." February 18, 2003: I first heard of Bob Rivers through a friend who downloaded the Buttcracker Suite from a website. I bought the More Twisted Christmas CD and just about died of laughter. Everyone in my family loved it, and we naturally went to buy another one of his albums, this one. We were very disappointed. The lyrics just aren't as funny on this recording, and there are questionable themes (Santa Claus Is Fooling Around is interjected with a woman's moaning and panting) and racial slurs (Nat King Cole is portrayed in one song as happy-go-lucky and dumb). We got rid of it as fast as possible. Please, DO NOT BUY THIS RECORD.
