About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Sony Music didn't reissue this, the best of the Chieftains' three albums for Columbia Records, until nearly 20 years after its original release. What they were waiting for is anyone's guess, as it contains the best of their late-'70s work, most notably Derek Bell's arrangement of Carolan's "Dr. John Hart," and the haunting tone poem "Sea Image," the brooding "An Speic Seoigheach," as well as the exuberant "If I Had Maggie In The Wood." Some of it is on Sony's Best of the Chieftains, but not enough to justify passing this disc up. Bruce Eder, All Music Guide

April 13, 2009: Mo Chairde Gael:

This captures the essence of what the Chieftains are all about--innovative, traditional, timeless, and cutting edge (at the same time!) If you're a fan of the boyo's craic, you'll enjoy it; if you've never heard the Chieftains before, you'll enjoy it! Mo gra, I assure you--you'll enjoy this recording!

Someday, there will exist a world without the Chieftains in it...I will not wish to be a part of this world!
