About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

These two CDs were first released in 1994 and '95 and caused an improbable international sensation. Of course, Gregorian chant had been widely available on disc before then; in fact, these recordings were originally made in the 1970s and early '80s. But, seemingly overnight, millions of listeners discovered that the austere, long-breathed melodies of medieval chant spoke to them. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Chant, EMI has issued the volume together with its sequel, Chant II, in a space-saving package and with a note by Bradley Bambarger, who puts the recordings' success in a broader cultural context. As for the music, it sounds as beautiful and timeless as ever. Sung by the Benedictine monks of Santo Domingo de Silos in their monastery in Spain, the atmosphere of spiritual calm is transporting -- a potent antidote to the jagged noise and hectic pace that are part of modern living. April 06, 2009: This CD is very similar to "Gregorian Chant" except it is a bit more varied and a bit longer. It is the sound of chanting, echoing as if in the halls of an abby. Very beautiful, and very restful. Love it!!

I Also Recommend: Gregorian Chant.
