If one didn't know any better, they might assume that this is a New Amsterdams EP. However, Tijuana Crime Scene is actually a Kansas City supergroup featuring members of the New Amsterdams, the Get up Kids, Appleseed Cast, and Reflector, as well as Ed Rose, the Kansas City super-producer utilizing his production and music skills. While many of the roots of Tijuana Crime Scene seem to be similar to the New Amsterdams and the Get up Kids, there is a refreshing breadth of material on these six songs. With songs reminiscent of the melancholy of Elliott Smith, the poppiness of the Anniversary, and the country-influenced twang of acts such as the Jayhawks, Tijuana Crime Scene seems to have found enough diversity to keep everyone's interest while still holding a solid center of pop melodies and heartfelt struggles. ~ Kurt Morris, All Music Guide All Music Guide
