Beautiful dancers, romance, and New York City -- "Center Stage" is a flick with all the makings of a modern girl's fairy tale -- the ultimate fantasy indulgence for any woman who has ever dreamed of being the prima ballerina, with all the inherent beauty and glamour it entails. The soundtrack, too, has an assortment of guilty pleasures; the first half of the tracks are swoony, girly pop tracks in the vein of the Spice Girls' catchy dance anthems, mostly performed by generic unknowns. The star of the soundtrack is Mandy Moore's "I Wanna Be with You," a breathy, heady ballad from Moore's 2000 album of the same name. But the real action kicks in on the second half of the soundtrack with older tracks, including Jamiroquai's disco-esque "Cosmic Girl"; the Red Hot Chili Peppers' bass-rockin' cover of the Stevie Wonder classic "Higher Ground"; Elvis Crespo and Gizelle D'Cole's merengue crowd-mover "Come Baby Come"; and Michael Jackson's sexy BAD-era funk track "The Way You Make You Feel." CENTER STAGE may never match the torrid and tailor-made dance movie soundtracks of, say, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, but the ear-candy adds up to a mix-tape of sugary goodies -- and that, after all, is a breakfast of champions for all prima ballerinas. July 16, 2005: this movie is so fantastic, and being a balletrina-teen i can deffinately relate. when the company came out, i went to see it, but it didnt have that kind of playfulness and dance moves that Center Stage has. i love it sooo much, and to this day its still my favorite movie.

November 25, 2003: I have seen this movie on DVD many times (I own a copy), mainly for the dance sequences although the characters are very real. The music sucks you into the reality of the plot all the more. If you loved the movie, you'll love this album. If you haven't seen the movie but enjoy the ballet, you won't be disappointed.
