August 18, 2004: Welcome to the genre of California Rock, Hole. This is a very well made album. It has NO screaming, which is odd for a Hole album. Here's a song review, just for YOU! CELEBRITY SKIN is maybe Hole's most famous song, filled with guitars and catchy hooks. AWFUL is definately a pop-song. A little too poppy for me. HIT SO HARD is a pop-rock song, good. MALIBU is the most beachy-song on the album, good Cali-rock. REASONS TO BE BEAUTIFUL is the heavist song on the album, some interesting lyrics (i.e. "Love hangs herself"). DYING is an awesome song, sends chills through your body, the way Courtney delivers this slow ballad. USE ONCE & DESTROY is a kind of annoying song, but it's all good. NORTHERN STAR is obviously about Kurt. Once again, Courtney delivers extrodinarily. BOYS ON THE RADIO is my favorite song on the album, it's just so good in so many ways, I can't even explain it! HEAVEN TONIGHT is another beachy rock song, very well made. PLAYING YOUR SONG is where Courtney shows her punk-grunge roots, sounds like a mix between America's Sweetheart and Live Through This. PETALS is an interesting rock song, all about flowers and the truth, good way to end an album. The album's extra special 'cause Courtney wrote every song about Kurt (or so I've heard from many sources). Good album by a great band.
