About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A solid collection of Celia Cruz' '90s recordings for RMM, Carnaval de Exitos grabs several tracks from her best albums for the label, including the previous year's live record A Night of Salsa ("Cucala," "Celia y Tito"), 1998's Mi Vida Es Cantar ("La Vida Es un Carnaval," the title track), and 1997's Duets album (her feature with salsa inheritor India on "La Voz de Experiencia"). Interested parties looking for a compilation of Cruz' later recordings will find plenty of exuberant music inside. John Bush, All Music Guide

July 18, 2003: Celia Cruz, the cuban singer who was and will remain an internationally known SALSA ESTRELLA and symbol of my cuban culture, died Wednesday at the age of 77. I grew up listening to your music and my kids, as well. You will live in our hearts forever, AZUCAR. She was always flashing a wide smile, and the entertainer gave a highly energetic stage show, punctuated often by her trademark shout,"AZUCAR" in the middle of a song. The word means sugar in spanish.Celia you are already missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
