About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Of all the Celtic settlements, the Spanish province of Galicia once bore the lowest musical profile. All that changed when the powerful gaita of piping prodigy Carlos Nuñez caught the world's ear. An integral part of the Chieftains' SANTIAGO album and now considered to be the seventh member of that band, Nuñez delivered a glorious solo turn on this 1997 release. Carrying the evocative drone common to Celtic music from Scotland to Brittany, Galician music also embraces Spanish forms such as flamenco, and Nuñez's vision includes the tones and timbres of Latin America as well. He's joined by a who's who of roots artists, from New Flamenco percussionist {|Tino DiGeraldo|} to guitar collaborator extraordinaire Ry Cooder to Irish stalwarts The Chieftains and Sean Keane. Expatriate Cuban chanteuse Caridad Hierrezuelo even shows up for this magical, masterful session. Mark Schwartz, Barnes & Noble

January 26, 2000: Having heard Carlos Nunez perform live with The Chieftains at the Kennedy Center, it is evident that he plays with a deep love for his country and music. The music of the gaita, and the music of Galicia, resounds in Carlos' playing. You will not be disappointed.
