This was originally issued as a 31-track, double LP full of Hooker's earliest and rarest sides, almost all of it taken from goodly hacked up acetates and 78 pressings. The compact disc deletes 11 of the most chewed up and attempts to clean up the rest with varying results. But this is one time when audiophile concerns don't count for much because this is quite simply Hooker at his earliest, his rarest and his very best. Cub Koda, All Music Guide
