Bob Baldwin wasn't the first artist to name a project after his website -- Fattburger and Jethro Tull both beat him to the punch -- but the funk-jazz keyboard whiz's Bobbaldwin.com devotes its liner notes to reminding us to enjoy technology but not let it take over for our heart and soul. Baldwin puts his music where his words are, using his synth rack to create numerous busy, often retro-soul textures, but, at heart, his graceful yet punchy melodies shine through at all times. He has a good time with titles, moving from the cool hip-hop of "eSmooth" (which features his trademark high-register swirling solos between revisits to the sax-driven hook) through "Westchester Online" (with a playful cat and mouse game between Dean James's soprano and Joey Summerville's bouncy trumpet) and then on to the album's most unusual piece, "Overtime (In the Chatroom)." As if to make a point about what too much cybertalk can do to one's sensibilities, Baldwin offers no defining pop melody, instead darting in and out with percussive avant-garde synth lines, clicking wah-wah guitars, and an occasionally smooth soprano line from Marion Meadows, over floating, hypnotic atmospheres. Most of the other material is smartly played and very in-the-pocket, from the opening cover of "Never Can Say Goodbye" (with crackling guitar passages and harmonies by Chuck Loeb) and the brassy party tune "Funkin' for Jamaica," featuring trumpeter Tom Browne and the harmonic blend of the saxes of Gerald Albright, Marion Meadows, and Fred Vigdor. August 01, 2009: From the minute you play the first track until the very end, Bob Baldwin has a way of keeping you wondering 'what's next". Starting with his more than soulful but still funky rendetion on "Never Can Say Goodbye" made famous by the Jackson 5, right down to the very last track he shows the world and many of the old and new so-called Jazz musicians how it should be done.

He uses every note, phrase, beat, and combines them with a more than old but new again style of "Funk, Fusion,Jazz" and never misses a single pause. Any one that want's to learn what the meaning of rythym is should take a moment and listen to some of the tracks on this CD.

Not only has he shown why the keyboard is such a veresitile instrument, but he also know the meaning of true back beat. His combining the drums as the main source and the bass guitar as the instrument it is, a true rythym instrument makes Bob Baldwin, a replacement for the conga and bongo drums. A pioneer in the true and complete way jazz was and should be played.

Once again , he and Dennis Johnson along with several other key players make this a true "dance your BOOTY" jazz tribute. This is one artist that everyine should hear again and again, if you can stop tapping your feet long enough to go to the next song.

I say again a new "KING" in the jazz has been born, yet he stays true to the roots of what jazz is all about. All Hail, Bob Baldwin.

May 13, 2002: ''Killing me softly with his song'' - that's what Roberta Flack said to Bob Baldwin back in 1989 when he got the ''Sony Innovators Awards''.Well , Flack is a living legend and you never doubt a legend.This album is the perfect example of what the format ''smooth jazz'' is all about!!!
