About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

It's been a while since this singer-songwriter last ventured into the spotlight -- and how Tracy Bonham has grown. Her third album reveals a warmer, more engaging persona than one might've expected after listening to her debut, The Burdens of Being Upright. She tips her hand on Blink the Brightest's opening track, the unabashedly hopeful "Something Beautiful," a song that seems custom-made for a summer-morning drive. As per usual, Bonham lets her violin do a good bit of the talking, , notably on the slinky "Born Without You," but she also provides a surprising amount of sonic variation. "Whether You Fall," for instance, finds her accompanying herself on solo piano (an instrument, incidentally, that was once owned by Yehudi Menuhin), while "Did I Sleep Through It All?" throws a string quartet into the mix. This broadened melodic range and Bonham's newfound ability to relax and even allow some vulnerability (as she does on "Eyes") marks Blink as a major step forward. Yes, she's still able to skewer someone who deserves it -- like the forces addressed in "And the World Has the Nerve to Keep Turning" -- but there's not a shrill note sounded here. March 08, 2006: I never heard of Tracy Bonham in my life until I heard one of her songs on "The L Word". It caught my ear so I decided to go out and get the album... and I am so happy I did. It's simply amazing.

August 10, 2005: I think "Blink the Brightest" is the best album Tracy Bonham has produced all these years. Her mastery and maturity in instrument playing does help her make some very nice songs. Besides, her voice is so lovable. I really recommend those who love rock treat yourself with this fantastic album.
