About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The best-recorded Roy Orbison live disc ever issued, taken from the soundtrack of the HBO concert from the 1980s with VIP guests like Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello. This was a sort of magical video, and the performances are splendid, along with the good feelings involved. On the other hand, the performances are extremely reverential to the established studio versions of the songs (all of the hits are here), and intended to mimic them, so this isn't quite the same as a live album as it would have been done back when. The pity is that neither Monument nor MGM ever taped any complete concerts by Orbison from the 1960s, and all that remains are TV appearances from Europe. Bruce Eder, All Music Guide

August 01, 2009: Companion CD to the PBS special from the 80's. Incridible back up band - Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, Elvis Costello, T Bone Burnett and others. Contains all the Orbison hits you really want to hear. His voice is as good as ever.

July 05, 2009: This concert, recorded at the Coconut Grove in LA in 1987, is a unique performance by some of the biggest names in contemporary music. Orbison could perform a fabulous concert on his own, but to add such music powerhouses as Bruce Springsteen, James Burton, Elvis Costello, Ton Waits, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, k.d. lang and Jennifer Warnes (to name a few) makes this a must-own collection. The music takes the listener through a gamut of emotions, up and down, with a culmination on the extended version of "Pretty Woman." I also recommend the companion DVD.

I Also Recommend: Essential Listening, Vol. 1, Roy Orbison & Friends: A Black & White Night, Escape From Hollywood.
