About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Toots Hibbert has nothing on Jimmy Cliff. The legendary Maytals frontman celebrated his career anniversary in 2004 with a hit album of duets, and now the star of The Harder They Come returns with his own busload of guest stars. Produced by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame, Black Magic finds Cliff's supple vocals worn in just a little by age. But his outlook remains forever youthful as he tackles up to the minute rap and dancehall rhythms in addition to some classic one-drop reggae. Joining Cliff is an inspired roster of guests who are imaginatively paired by Stewart -- Kool & the Gang and ragga DJ Bounty Killer? -- that should pique the interest of fans and newcomers alike. February 16, 2005: This album rocks!!! The sound reflects the experience of a man who has been around the world and is inspired by the commonality of its people. Songs such as 'Dance', 'The City', 'People', Black Magic','The World is yours', are aglow with positive energy that will uplift you. If you have one CD so far this year it should be this one. This album is filled with songs that remind you that you are in charge of your destiny and that you can achieve your dreams through your own determination. A lyric in the song 'Dance' says: "Hold your head up child, don't let nobody tell you what you can or cannot do, because the world belongs to you." I urge you to check this one out.
