Editorial Reviews

This is another awesome jazz compilation circa 1960-1970 from the Crippled Dick Hot Wax label, which is famous for releasing old foreign porn soundtracks like Vampyros Lesbos and School Girl Report. Though a glimpse at the album art might suggest that you are buying grass- or hemp-inspired music, Between or Beyond the Black Forest is nothing but pure, classic jazz tracks. Featured artists include Rimona Francis, George Duke, and drummer Charly Antolini; since many are European, their names won't ring a bell with most American listeners. However, these musicians are definitely worth getting to know. Every song on Between or Beyond the Black Forest is a hit, and the fact that the compilation is on such an obscure yet historic label makes it even more interesting. ~ Diana Potts, All Music Guide All Music Guide
