Alameda CA's AIT Records offers American audiences this fantastic collection of Ethiopian superstar Mahmoud Ahmed's finest recorded moments. Most of us here in America came to the music of Ahmed via the tremendous Ethiopiques series, or have heard his Ere Mela Mela album . This ten-song set collects his hit singles as well as some choice album tracks in excellent remastered sound. Folk melodies, funk, jazz, pop, and Middle Eastern soul all come together in these tracks in a brew that is heady, intoxicating, and ultimately seductive. There is nothing primitive or "exotic" about the tunes here; this is modern Ethiopian pop at its very best. Even better news than volume one is that this is the first in a projected series of collections by Ahmed that will further introduce Westerners to the glory of that voice.
