Sensitive, exciting and impressively lucid.... The Bournemouth Symphony, in technically adept, bracing performances, plays like a top-notch orchestra. Anthony Tommasini

[October 2003 CD of the Month] It seems entirely appropriate that Marin Alsop’s first recording with her Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra should be of music by her teacher Leonard Bernstein. She studied with him at Tanglewood and shares with him a real feeling for rhythm and colour -- beautifully illustrated in this well-balanced CD.

Alsop and her Bournemouth band capture [On the Waterfront] as surely and atmospherically as they do the glitzy exuberance of On the Town...it reeks of adrenaline, and brutal oppression.... The orchestra has a riot [in Chichester Pslams], and it's a very well-held recording: oomph plus air.
