About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Eight years after the great Charlie Rich's death, the critical debate continues to rage as to whether Rich's broad, deep artistry was well served during his hit-making years on Epic Records. 1973's Behind Closed Doors was the veteran artist's commercial breakthrough, with a 21-week run atop the country charts and a pair of No. 1 singles in the title song and "The Most Beautiful Girl." The album finds producer Billy Sherrill's countrypolitan production highlighting the innate jazz, blues and gospel elements of Rich's voice, as demonstrated by the changing textures of "Sunday Kind of Woman" and the intoxicating late-night ambiance of "I Take It on Home." The four bonus tracks include the gospel-inflected, previously unreleased standout "I've Got Mine." David McGee, Barnes & Noble

January 18, 2006: I remember the Era of Charlie Rich well. Those of you who didn't, this is a great selection to hear his work. He always was famous, but I often wished he had gotten more accolades before his demise. He is buried in Memphis, TN. He had so much more potential than was attributed him. Just a great voice,to me similar to Elvis. He deserved more appreciation of his great his talent, his voice. He had a presence I shall always remember. I loved "Behind Closed Doors", he was always such a gentleman and this one was before it's time..but a great song! He was on many TV Shows and known as "The Silver Fox"..We lost him too soon.I hope his music lives on forever.Great to see his work on here! This sounds like an excellent selection of his work!

April 21, 2002: An almost perfect album, marred only by the dreadful track, ''We Love Each Other''. It would have been perfect if it had instead included his recording of ''Feel Like Going Home'', originally released as a B-side to one of his Epic singles.
