The sequel to the award-winning Beethoven's Wig is just as much fun as the original. Richard Perlmutter's wacky bunch once again provide silly songs for famous classical melodies in a package that both entertains and informs. This time out, favorites from Verdi, Brahms, Schubert, and Strauss get twisted readings that will have kids - and their parents - in stitches. "Sing Verdi Very Loud" calls for vociferous vocals, to the tune of "La donna è mobile" (from Rigoletto): "Do what the divas do / Shatter a glass or two / Your voice is well-endowed / Sing Verdi very loud." The reason Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is retitled "It's the Same Every Verse" is quite obvious, and the lyrics count down the 18 verses one by one: "Here's a piece that's quite perverse / It's the same every verse / So for better or for worse / We've 17 to go." The most amusing song on the whole disc has to be "Please Do Not Tease the Viennese." Set to Strauss' "Blue Danube Waltz," this hilarious track begs forgiveness for Vienna's penchant for the waltz and for melodies "conducted in threes." While plenty funny, the Beethoven's Wig crew never lose sight of the music -- including an instrumental performance of each piece without lyrics. Beethoven's Wig 2 is a surefire triumph. November 08, 2008: I am so happy to have a CD that we can all enjoy! The lyrics are entertaining, and the music selections are great. I am happy to use this to introduce the kids to classical music in a really fun way that I think will make them life-long music lovers. And, I personally prefer this to the typical kids CDs.

I Also Recommend: Miss Rumphius.

August 08, 2007: since checking out 1st cd of this series from the library. My niece loves this music. I must say she's a bit advanced for her age (reads the liner notes on her own already), but she can now recognize the classic pieces and their composers when she turns on the classical music station on tv. The humorous lyrics first entertain, but the instrumental pieces later on the cd really help kids (and adults) learn how the songs sound with symphony only. It's not at all surprising to me that the 3 cds have all been nominated for Grammys. This is a great way for kids to be introduced to classical music -- something most wouldn't be interested in for years!
