About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Gramophone, the prestigious British music magazine, made this their primary recommendation for a recording of Beethoven's Violin Concerto. Not bad for a violinist who's still in her teens. These days musical prodigies are a dime a dozen, although Hilary Hahn is clearly no dimestore prodigy. Sure, she has technique to burn and a silky golden tone, but what sets Hahn apart is her imagination. It sounds as if she's considered afresh every phrase of Beethoven's familiar work to arrive at an exquisite and engaging performance. She's equally at home in Bernstein's clever Serenade (1954), an early work inspired by Plato's "Symposium." Lyrical and jazzy, it is one of the composer's finest symphonic creations and Hahn is an effective champion for its syncopated charm. Conductor David Zinman and the Baltimore Symphony offer fine support, particularly in the delicacy of the Serenade's sweet Adagio. Andrew Farach-Colton, Barnes & Noble

July 23, 2009: This is the best Beethoven Violin Concerto I ever heard in my life and the only one that I will ever need. I have compared this to almost every Beethoven recording possible and this still comes out as the winner. The sweetness and power which Hilary conjures from her violin is unparalleled. Unfortunately, she has not yet produced another concerto recording in which she sounds like this; Her Brahms Concerto and Schoenberg Concerto is close but I was never engrossed to it as much as I was addicted to this recording. David Zinman and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is the best sounding orchestra that I have ever heard do the Beethoven. I listen to this CD everyday to relax and relieve stress and it works every time. I will never cease to enjoy this Beethoven til the day I die.

I Also Recommend: Schoenberg, Sibelius: Violin Concertos, Brahms, Stravinsky: Violin Concertos.
