Yehudi Menuhin along with the Berlin Philharmonic performing the violin concerti of Beethoven and Mendelssohn is an unforgettable combination. The two violin concerti are both among the greatest ever written incorporating very hummable melodies in addition to great virtuosity on the part of Menuhin. Also, this particular recording features a very smooth interplay between soloist and orchestra, with Menuhin being featured but not overwhelming the orchestra, and very smooth transitions between solo and orchestral passages. For the violin concerto fan or anyone curious about what the pinnacle of perfection in violin performance is, this CD is a must have for your collection.
