About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A longtime gospel favorite since its founding some 30 years ago, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir turns in another tour de force with Be Glad. As its name implies, Be Glad is an overwhelmingly positive affair, with songs expressing joy, encouragement, and thanksgiving. Remarkably enough, the choir began recording just days after the September 11th terrorist attacks, in which a number of Brooklyn Tabernacle Church members lost their lives. But as the choir came together for its own healing, what emerged was a renewal of faith that shines through each of these 11 effervescent tracks. Blending traditional and gospel styles with some modern flourishes -- jazzy strings here, a Caribbean melody line there -- Be Glad is an ideal blend. In addition to the title track, the collection also contains the Kirk Franklin-penned "My Life Is in Your Hands" and the powerful "This Is How It Feels to Be Free," written by Christian music trio Phillips, Craig & Dean. Be Glad is performed from the heart, and as such, it speaks to the heart of its listeners. Lisa Zhito, Barnes & Noble

January 04, 2004: I often enjoy rock music, opera and jazz, so my taste in music might be described as eclectic, but gospel was never among my preferences. And though I am a Christian, noone would ever accuse me of being devout. A year ago, I explored the BTC website after becoming interested in a woman at work who attends church there. Then, while visiting their CD list I clicked on Be Glad. The music director's note about September 11 put a hook in me as I had witnessed the collapse of the towers. A sample from the title track with the unique, light syncopation of its 300-yoice choir reeled me in. But what captured me was the early Diana Ross sound of the young soloist. That took 30 seconds. I asked my friend to buy a copy for me and she gave me one. Now I'm buying it for my family. The other songs are all different, but they share a luminosity of spirit that settles over me as I drive, brightens my outlook and moves me to tears. I never get tired of this CD.

February 24, 2003: The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is by far the top gospel choir out there. In my opinion, the diversity of the the choir, white, black chinese, spanish, lawyers, doctors, models, homeless, makes this choir so awesome and the spirit the choir has. The album "Be Glad" is just another tool the choir has to convey the anointing, and the spirit of the choir by many diffrent styles, classical gospel, jazz, and that good church gospel "I can go to god in prayer" BTC Be Glad a Must!!!!!!!!!!!!!
