Former Kinetics and Loved Ones singer Bart Davenport delivers a solo debut with plenty of quality songs and fetching folk-tinged pop touches. Put out by Oakland's Paris Caramel label and featuring a bevy of Bay Area talent -- including Dax Pierson, who contributes some fine synth work -- the ten-track disc finds Davenport in strong vocal form and reveling in a very original program of both solo acoustic sides ("New Cool Shoes") and minimal, electro-bossa bubblers ("Sugar Pie 1 & 2"). From a "Miami Afternoon" to that special "Mannequin Bride," Davenport pens a mix that transcends most of the acoustic pop records currently available. Stephen Cook, All Music Guide
