About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Featuring the talents of dancers-turned-singer/guitarists Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, Ballas Hough Band is a poppy outfit that delivers slick, radio-ready modern dance-rock on its 2009 debut album BHB. Best known as dancers on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, Ballas and Hough formed the band while training and dancing in England in 2007. And although it's more than likely that the popularity of the ABC show is a big reason why BHB is getting some attention, the music ain't bad either. Both Ballas and Hough actually play their own instruments and are backed by a legitimate ensemble of bandmembers including keyboardist/vocalist Emily Grace, bassist Sam Marder, and drummer Harry Sullivan. The resulting sound is definitely more rock-informed than one might expect and should draw favorable comparisons to such similarly inclined outfits as Maroon 5 and The Jonas Brothers. Tracks like the club-ready "Do You Love Me?" and the revved-up "Fall" mix high-energy hip-pop and rawk with a teen pop sensibility that should appeal to a generation raised on the legacy of Michael Jackson filtered through American Idol and Justin Timberlake.
