About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The orchestral gothic metal of Morten Veland's Sirenia is more than ambitious on the group's debut, At Sixes and Sevens -- it's almost cosmic in scope and epic by any standard. After carefully honing his skills in the more collaborative Tristania, Veland holds nothing back on this 2002 Napalm offering. A cadre of operatic vocalists and classical musicians wrap Veland's songs in a composite sheen that's rare even within a genre known for grand soundscapes. A few plodding numbers (the title track and "Lethargica") miss their mark, but when highlights like the anthemic "Shadow of Your Own Self" get into gear, At Sixes and Sevens rolls like thunder and flows like the bitter tears of Veland's less-accomplished goth/doom colleagues. ~ Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide All Music Guide

August 29, 2006: What a beautiful cd! It would be perfect except for one thing: The female vocals. I mean, sure, she has a pleasant voice. But thats it. Its nothing special. That woman has nothing on Vibeke Stene. Otherwise a great album!

October 17, 2002: Gothic sensation -Sirenia- " "At Sixes and Sevens" Brings fresh sound to the underground scenage surpassing its genre predisessors thus bursting into an overwhelming lingerment and rightfully so. Morten Veland is, and without a doubt, the main genious behind Tristania..which lead to their success of Widow's Weed and Beyond The veil. An attempt to produce an album prior to previous albums (with morten's departure in late May) resulted in a poor but horrid production (World of Glass)- An album which damaged their trademark. Thankfully, Morten Veland has not lost his touch, bringing remarkable notions to this magnificant album which can later be argued as the perfect follow up to Beyond The Veil. A must have!
