About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Boasting a fuller sound and a more focused sense of purpose, Antichrist Superstar is a substantial improvement on Marilyn Manson's debut album, Portrait of an American Family. The band draws equally from schlock metal, progressive metal, new wave, goth rock, and industrial rock, and with the help of producers Trent Reznor and Dave Ogilvie, the group creates a boiling, mockingly satanic mess of guitars, synthesizers, and ridiculously "scary" vocals. Though the sonic details make Antichrist Superstar an intriguing listen, it's not as extreme as it could have been -- in particular, the guitars are surprisingly anemic, sounding like buzzing vacuums instead of unwieldy chainsaws. Even with that considered, Antichrist Superstar is an unexpectedly cohesive album from a silly shock metal band and will stand as {|Marilyn Manson|}'s definitive statement. February 23, 2007: This album is perhaps the darkest album I've ever experienced. When I first heard this album ten years ago it actually gave me apocalyptic nightmares. And that's what intrigues me the most about it. Upon the title, I, like probably most, thought it was some schlock satanic statement, but it is far more than that. It's a journey through one man's personal hell through every "sin" imaginable. It shows that an apocalypse is more personal than global. Whereas a band such as Slayer throws melody out the window and uses speed guitar and distorted screams to evoke an angry and "blasphemous" statement (not that I'm dogging Slayer), Manson uses a quiet moment of discontent and builds up to a crazed emotion that just goes out of control. It's like listening to an intense nervous breakdown. If you like any kind of metal infused with industrial overtones, I don't think you could find anything better than this album.

December 27, 2004: This cd is one of Manson's best. I must say it has INCREDIBLE SONGS including the most popular "The Beautiful People" . I think that this is a wonderful cd and if you love and/or like Mr. Marilyn Manson, THEN GET THIS CD... And if you like and/or love this cd than i think you'll enjoy HolyWood(In the shadow of deathvalley) and Mechanical Animals which are both Marilyn Manson cds... Ba Da Bop Bop Bop I'm Lovin' It
