About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Previous to The Amazing California Health and Happiness Road Show, the Mermen has already proved themselves through live shows and recordings to be a well worth experiencing, highly amplified psychedelic surf band. Here the tide brings in much more to take in. This opus from the instrumental trio is much more introspective and trippy. While still retaining a distinctive Californian vibe, this album is much more progressive than any that preceded it. This mix of sitar, slow psychedelic, and deep space blues summons the vision of Pacific Ocean swells, containing a fantasy of exotic sea creatures. Tom Schulte, All Music Guide

August 22, 2009: Each record by this band is a little different: never stuck in one kind of surf music, but always buiding and adding to the borders of the style. Like the Byrds, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Todd Rundgren, and the Beach Boys of the mid to late 60's, each Mermen album is a new chapter. Although it lacks the fire of their live album, this is original, new music with well produced layers of sound by players who can demonstrate a variety of moods.
