About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Alive! was the album that catapulted Kiss from cult attraction to mega-superstars. It was their first Top Ten album, remaining on the charts for 110 weeks and eventually going quadruple platinum. Culled from shows in Detroit, New Jersey, Iowa, and Cleveland on the Dressed to Kill tour, the record features producer Eddie Kramer doing a masterful job of capturing the band's live performance on record. The band's youthful energy is contagious, and with positively electric versions of their best early material, it's no mystery why Alive! is widely regarded as one of the greatest live hard rock recordings of all time. "Rock and Roll All Nite" became a Top 20 smash and was the main reason for the album's success, but there are many other tracks that are just as strong -- "Deuce," "Strutter," "Firehouse," "Parasite," "She," "100,000 Years," "Black Diamond," and "Cold Gin" all shine in a live setting. Although there's been some speculation of extensive overdubbing to correct mistakes, Alive! remains Kiss' greatest album ever. An essential addition to any rock collection. July 25, 2009: By far this classic recording is best heard on old school vinyl...which is what it was meant for. Alive! is a double live slab of rock and roll that is without question the greatest ROCK album of all time!

October 05, 2006: I remember when I first bought this album, on New Year's Eve 1975. After seeing KISS on the Mike Douglas Show & the Midnight Special I was blown away by their look, their performing style and, most of all, by their music. For over a year I had been looking in vain for a KISS album in record stores and department stores. Then, on 12/31/75 with Christmas money in hand I found this album in a local record store. That night I stayed up all night long playing this album over and over. I still play it today, on CD of course. This is bar none the best album KISS ever recorded. They have always sounded their best in front of a live audience, but never better than they do hear. The excitement is contagious, grabbing the listener from the opening cheers of the audience and opening chords of "Deuce" and does not let go until the final strains of "Let Me Go, Rock n Roll and the final applause. Songs that sounded lifeless and uninspired on their first three albums, "Deuce," "Strutter," "C'mon & Love Me," "Black Diamond," "Cold Gin," really come alive here. But, the biggest surprise is "Rock n Roll All Nite." This is the definitive live version of the KISS anthem. The guitar solo and extra bridge and chorus, none of which were present on the anemic Dressed to Kill version, make all the difference. This album is a true defining moment in rock history. After the success of KISS Alive! other rock stars, Bob Seger, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, would mark their career breakthroughs with a live album. Even non-KISS fans should come aboard with this record. It will make a believer out of even the hardest cynic!
