About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Although she's recorded just two grown-up albums -- what with the Britney Spears-like dance-pop discs minted in her teens now banished to VH1's "Before They Were Famous" -- Alanis Morissette can stake a legitimate claim to being the Voice of '90s Young Womanhood. And even in this stripped-down live context, that voice certainly does carry, evoking both the rage that made Morissette famous (the controlled yet powerful take on "You Oughta Know") and her newfound serenity (the opening "You Learn"). The dozen songs here are culled relatively equally from her breakthrough JAGGED LITTLE PILL and the more pensive SUPPOSED FORMER INFATUATION JUNKIE, and the material from the latter album, particularly "No Pressure Over Cappuccino" and "That I Would Be Good," adapts especially well to this spare setting. Though this material is certainly nothing new to ardent fans -- or even casual radio listeners -- Morissette tosses enough curves into even her best-known songs to make it worthwhile. July 03, 2009: I love this album. It's great when I'm sad or when I'm stressed or when I'm po'd. I love her voice and the toned down music really brings her out. I'm such a lyric person though that I always listen to the singer more than the music. I will say that the notes (both vocal and instrumental) are a unique use of sharps/flats (she must love the chromatic scale). I've been a AM fan from the beginning because she's just her. AM's music is not for the shallow or the person who doesn't listen to the lyrics; this album escpecially was made to focus on AM's voice.

Try listening to this album when you're stress/ticked and see if you don't feel better afterwords. It works like a charm for me everytime.

I Also Recommend: Fallen [Bonus Track], The Open Door, Flyleaf [CD/DVD] [Bonus Tracks/Ringtone], Pieces of You, Spirit.

September 02, 2000: Alanis is thankfully one of those singers that doesn't write about all those cute, sweet little things. True, some of her songs are angry and accusing, but she sings about the real world! Alanis is one of those few people that know what the real world is all about! I am another one of those people, and my poems are sometimes angry as well. Some of them turn out to be extremely successful, I might add! ;-) This CD is the best! The first time I listened to it, I was first drawn to the unique style of the tunes and beat. Then I began to read and to listen to her lyrics! She really puts forth a lot of effort, and a lot of thought goes into those songs! I truly believe she has the power..the power to WIN!
