Editorial Reviews

Pieced together from various Jamaican singles, Ain't Gonna See Us Fall is an uneven, loose, and mostly exciting overview of Sizzla's output during 2005 and early 2006. He's been accused of glutting the market with too many singles and too much music, and while some of the romantic tracks included here are forgettable, the street-driven, "for the people" tracks are all worth hearing, even when the production or presentation is rickety. "Sad Mistake" is a raw triumph while "People Need Love" is a great example of Sizzla's ability to play it wild and free over a common riddim. More out of control is the vicious "Kill Yuh," an authentically sloppy dancehall number with some offensive words crudely censored. This is especially odd since Sizzla's often-dropped "F" bomb comes through loud and clear on some of the slickly produced tracks. Speaking of slick, the glorious "I'm with the Girls" gets into Sean Paul territory, while the title cut is a polished yet sincere plea for the world to come together in peace. Even if Ain't Gonna See Us Fall is all over the place, it saves international fans the trouble of finding these tunes one by one. David Jeffries, All Music Guide
