About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Sally Fingerett has been performing and recording as a solo artist and a member of 4 Bitchin' Babes for 20 years, so it seems fitting to release A Woman's Gotta Do Her Thing in 2004. While Fingerett enjoys writing about the same things other singer/songwriters write about -- relationships, self-fulfillment, and life -- she accomplishes her task with a healthy dose of humor. The title cut, for instance, paints a portrait of the modern woman, overwhelmed by deadlines, goals, and too many things to do. The solution? Do something for oneself, like go shopping or eat two pints of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. While this advice may seem a bit flippant, Fingerett's underling point is a serious one: "When you need permission/Remember this song/From someone who suffers like you/You're the only one standing in your way/Girl go do...what you're gonna do." A Woman's Gotta Do Her Thing includes many such moments, from the live crowd-pleaser "It's Been Said" to "Take Me Out to Eat." Despite her predilection for humor, Fingerett also has a serious side that searches for the emotional heart of things on cuts like "Little Girl Please Wait" with Janis Ian and the touching "My Friend Elaine." A Woman's Gotta Do Her Thing works as a good introduction to Fingerett, and fans will want to pick it up for the previously unreleased tracks. Ronnie D. Lankford Jr., All Music Guide
