The first VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS recording, released in 1987, was a benefit album for the Special Olympics and their efforts to provide year-round sports training and competitions for mentally retarded children and adults in more than 140 countries. This year's release, volume 4, documents a live concert that ran the gamut from Run-DMC's rousing "Christmas in Hollis" and Jon Bon Jovi's "Please Come Home for Christmas" to Tracy Chapman's tranquil "O Holy Night" and Vanessa Williams's "What Child Is This." In the spirit of holiday togetherness, Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow share the mike on a playful "Merry Christmas Baby"; Clapton and John Popper deliver a "Christmas Blues"; Crow and Mary J Blige are "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"; and the whole gang chimes in for a spirited "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."
